Breaking the Glass Ceiling of Museums 2023 Glass $Breaking the Glass Ceiling of Museums 2023 Glass Ceiling is a term widely used in the business world to describe the invisible barrier that prevents qualified individuals—particularly women and minorities—from advancing to leadership positions, even when the path ahead appears open. This installation asks: Does the same glass ceiling exist within the art world? The data visualisation presents the number of women artists represented in the collections of fourteen major art museums in the United States. At the centre, a nightingale chart illustrates the ratio of male to female artists at each institution. Surrounding it, the number of radial lines corresponds to the total number of women artists, while the varying lengths indicate their race and place of origin. The graphic is laser-engraved onto a clear acrylic panel, evoking the image of fractured glass. Overlaid on top is a sheet of semi-transparent paper, printed in colours reminiscent of light.
