In our modern era, we possess “accurate” and “visual” time through smartphones and digital devices. Historically, however, the tolling of bells across a city was not a private commodity but a shared “audible” notification of time for the entire community.
The intervention of these sounds every 15 minutes momentarily halts our efficient, digital timeline, evoking a sense of communal temporal experience. Through the bells resonating from various locations, this work explores the nature of “auditory time”—a perception of time that remains unbound by numerical data.
