Following the same methodology as the previous walk in London, this project documents a journey across Tokyo from east (Kiyosumi-shirakawa) to west (Shibuya). The route was determined every 15 minutes by Google Maps and the roll of a die—a literal “algorithmic walk.”
The installation displays photographs taken during this journey in a real-time, randomized sequence. These images have been categorized and analyzed by the artist, accompanied by “three keywords” that deconstruct why each subject captured their interest.
In parallel, the screen integrates Tokyo’s urban data into a 3D landscape, where a virtual camera autonomously pans across the cityscape. By navigating between the macro perspective of urban data and the micro perspective of the artist’s subjective gaze, the work explores a new mode of urban exploration in the digital age.
